AKOS A1231-2224 - Introduction
N-(3,4-dichlorophenyl) butylamide is an organic compound with the chemical formula C10H9Cl2NO3.
Nature:
N-(3,4-dichlorophenyl) butylamide is a white crystalline powder, soluble in organic solvents such as chloroform and ethanol, and almost insoluble in water. It has a strong pungent odor.
Use:
N-(3,4-dichlorophenyl) butylamide is commonly used as an intermediate for glyphosate, a broad-spectrum herbicide used to control the growth of weeds.
Method:
N-(3,4-dichlorophenyl) butylamide can be prepared by reacting benzylamine with 3,4-dichlorobenzoic anhydride. First benzylamine reacts with hydrogen chloride to give benzyl chloride, and then benzyl chloride reacts with 3,4-dichlorobenzoic anhydride to give N-(3,4-dichlorophenyl) butylamide.
Safety Information:
N-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)butanediamide may be irritating to human inhalation, exposure, or ingestion. During use, appropriate protective gloves and eye/face protection should be worn to prevent contact with skin and eyes. Good ventilation should be ensured during operation. If ingested or inhaled, seek medical attention immediately.
